World's Deepest Place On Earth: The Marianna Trench (35,787 ft Deep)

The Marianna Trench is the deepest part of all the world’s oceans. At its lowest depth, known as Challenger Deep.

The sea floor is a staggering 35,787-feet beneath the surface.
Fact:-
  • By comparison, if Mount Everest were placed into the trench at this point, its peak would still be over two kilometres (1.2 mi) under water.
  • The deepest part of all the world’s oceans.
The Mariana Trench is located in the western Pacific Ocean about 200 kilometres (124 mi) east of the Mariana Islands. The Mariana Trench, which is situated within the territories of the U.S. dependencies of the Northern Mariana Islands and Guam, was designated a U.S. national monument in 2009.

Mariana trench:-
  • It is crescent-shaped.
  • It's about 2,550 km (1,580 mi) in length and 69 km (43 mi) in width.
  • The maximum known depth is 10,984 metres (36,037 ft). However, some unrepeated measurements place the deepest portion at 11,034 metres (36,201 ft).
At the bottom of the trench the water column above exerts a pressure of 1,086 bars, more than 1,071 times the standard atmospheric pressure at sea level. At this pressure, the density of water is increased by 4.96%. The temperature at the bottom is 1 to 4 °C.

The ocean's second-deepest place is also in the Mariana Trench. The Sirena Deep, which lies 124 miles to the east of Challenger Deep, is a bruising 35,462 feet deep.

Measuring the depth:-

1) In 1875 during the Challenger Expedition, when a sounding of 26,850 feet was obtained near the southern end of the trench.
2) In 1899 Nero Deep (31,693 feet) was discovered southeast of Guam.
3) In 1957, during the International Geophysical Year, the Soviet research ship Vityaz sounded a new world record depth of 36,056 feet in Challenger Deep. That value was later increased to 36,201 feet.
4) A Japanese expedition in 1984 and one of 36,070 feet obtained by a U.S. research team in 2011. First encountered in 1997, its depth has been reported variously as 34,911 and 35,463 feet.
There are many wonders inside the Mariana trench: strange creatures that glow in the dark and have never been seen before.

Summary:

This is all about the World's Deepest place on our planet (Earth).
