World's and India's Tallest statue : Statue of Unity


  • Statue of unity with a height of 182 Meters (597ft) stands as a world's tallest statue in 2018. 
  • The statue of unity is tribute to an indian independence era leader Sardar Vallabhbhai patel. 
  • Narendra Modi first announced the project to commemorate Vallabhbhai Patel on 7 October 2013 at a press conference. 
  • The construction of the statue started in October 2013 by Larsen & Toubro, with a total construction cost of Rs 2,989 crores (29.89 billion rupees; USD $459 million). 
  • It was designed by Indian sculptor Ram V. Sutar. 
  • Beginning date of the construction is 31 October 2013, Completion date is 30 October 2018 and inaugurated in 31 October 2018. 
  • 70,000 tonnes of cement, 24,000 tonnes of steel and 1,700 tonnes of bronze is used in this construction. 
  • Statue of unity Construction cost is $420 million. 
  • It was Inaugurated by Narendra Modi on 143rd anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's birth. 
  • Gujarat, Statue of Unity attracted 2.9 million tourists, earned approximately ₹82 cr in one year in 2019.
