TikTok has come under scrutiny, again. After the Indian government decided to ban 59 Chinese apps including TikTok to ensure “safety and sovereignty of Indian cyberspace", there have been reports that the U.S. government is also looking to ban the short-video making platform. To that end, a top White House adviser has said that instead of banning TikTok, the platform should be separated from its Chinese owner and operate like an American company, reports Reuters.

“We haven’t made final decisions but...I think TikTok is going to pull out of the holding company which is China-run and operate as an independent American company,” said White House Economic Adviser, Larry Kudlow. However, according to a TikTok spokesman, the company would not “engage with speculation in the market”. Further adding that ByteDance is “evaluating changes to the corporate structure of its TikTok business” and is “fully committed” to protect user privacy and security.
As per the report, President Donald Trump’s chief of staff recently revealed that the administration is currently analyzing the national security risks associated with social media applications like TikTok and WeChat. The decision around TikTok ban in the U.S. would arrive in the coming weeks, said a White House official.
